Where souls come from#

Souls are Deadlock’s currency: they level you up (more power and ability points) and buy items. Every player starts with 600. After that, they come from:

Soul sources (base values at the start of the match; most grow over time)
SourceHow it pays
TroopersAbout 100 per trooper at 0:00, rising slowly. Each dead trooper drops two soul orbs worth half each.
Neutral camps (Haunts)Small, medium and large camps. Paid as haunted souls to everyone who damaged the camp in the last 5 seconds.
Hero killsStarts around 200 and rises each minute. Split between the killer and recent assisters. First blood adds a bonus.
Sinner’s SacrificesFrom 8:00. Hit them for haunted souls and permanent stat buffs.
CratesWooden crates often drop souls; tough crates always do but need a heavy melee.
ObjectivesGuardians, Walkers, Base Guardians and Shrines all pay out; the Midboss pays the whole team.
Soul Urn and Unstable RiftBig timed events — see the Urn and timers.

Soul orbs and denying#

  • When a trooper dies, soul orbs float up. Shoot or hit your own team’s orbs (green) to secure them.
  • Shoot the enemy’s orbs (orange) to deny them — you get those souls and they don’t.
  • Unclaimed floating orbs pop after about a second and go to the owning team, but only if an ally is close enough. Too far away and the souls are lost.
  • Melee kills confirm the orb automatically — useful, but it puts you in parry range.

Haunted souls and dying with them#

Souls from neutral sources arrive as haunted souls and convert to secured souls over time. If you die while carrying enough of them, you drop a Soul Bag that anyone can grab with a heavy melee. Farm the jungle, then don’t take a risky fight straight away.

Comeback mechanics#

The losing team earns extra from troopers, camps, Sacrifices and objectives, and killing a hero who is far ahead of your team pays a big bonus. A team that falls behind isn’t out of the game — and a team that’s ahead shouldn’t feed its most expensive hero.

A farming routine#

  1. Lane phase: secure every orb you can and deny the easy ones. Missed orbs add up fast.
  2. Between waves: clear the nearest neutral camp, then return before the next wave arrives.
  3. Break crates on your path. They’re free souls when you’re walking past anyway.
  4. From 8:00: add Sinner’s Sacrifices to your route when your lane is safe.
  5. Always be near the next objective when it’s ready — objective and event souls are worth more than one more camp.

Common farming mistakes#

  • Leaving a wave to die under your Guardian with nobody near to collect it.
  • Carrying lots of haunted souls into a fight.
  • Farming a camp while your team fights four-versus-five.
  • Ignoring orbs because you’re trading with the enemy hero.
