Error lookup table#
Most errors fall into a few families. Find yours, then try the fixes in order.
| Message or symptom | What it usually means | Try first |
|---|---|---|
| “Error 126” / “The specified module could not be found” | A Windows file the game needs (a DLL) is missing or blocked | Verify files; reinstall the Visual C++ runtimes; check antivirus quarantine |
| “No license” / can’t launch, game shows in library | Your account doesn’t have access yet | Check your invite was accepted — see how invites work |
| Replay won’t load or fails to download | The replay is from an older game version, or has expired | Watch replays soon after the match; older ones may not play after an update |
| Can’t connect / stuck finding a match | Server trouble or a network block | See servers and matchmaking |
| Crash to desktop with no message | Driver, overlay or file problem | See crash fixes |
Error 126#
Error 126 is a Windows error, not a Deadlock-specific one: a program tried to load a module and couldn’t find it. Work through these:
- Verify the game files in Steam (Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity).
- Install or repair the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables (x64 and x86) from Microsoft.
- Check your antivirus quarantine for blocked game files and restore them.
- Update your GPU driver, then restart your PC.
- As a last resort, reinstall the game.
“No license” errors#
Deadlock is invite-only. If the game shows in your library but won’t launch or reports no licence, your account probably doesn’t have access, or the invite wasn’t completed. Check the Deadlock store page — if it says you can play, restart Steam. If it doesn’t, you still need an invite. We don’t sell or give out invites; avoid anyone who does.
Replay errors#
Replays are tied to the game version they were recorded on. After an update, older replays may not play. If a recent replay fails, retry later — the replay server may still be processing it. More in replays and spectating.
Reporting a new error#
If you see an error we don’t list, note the exact text and when it happens, then check the official Deadlock forum’s bug reports. You can also send it to us and we’ll add it once we can confirm a fix.
