Warden’s main threat#

Warden, Deadlock hero

Warden is a brawler: starts and survives close-range fights, soaking damage while dealing plenty back.

The kit is weapon-leaning, so bullet resistance and weapon shields do the most to blunt it.

Abilities to play around#

Alchemical Flask ability icon

Ability 1

Alchemical Flask

Throws a flask that damages enemies, weakens their weapon damage and movement speed and briefly slows them.

Play around it Mobility — it’s also the escape. Don’t chase it into their team; force it out first, then commit. Slowing Hex shuts down many movement abilities.

Play around it Slows — Enduring Speed and Debuff Reducer help you walk out of it.

Willpower ability icon

Ability 2

Willpower

Grants Warden a protective barrier and a temporary move speed bonus.

Play around it Defensive window — stop shooting into it, reposition, and burst when it ends.

Binding Word ability icon

Ability 3

Binding Word

Curses an enemy hero, damaging and immobilizing them if they don't move far enough from their starting position in time.

Play around it Disable or displacement — this is what starts kills. Track its cooldown and punish the window after it’s used; Debuff Reducer shortens it, and Unstoppable or Indomitable answer the biggest ones.

Last Stand ability icon

Ultimate

Last Stand

After a brief charge with greatly increased resistances, releases pulses that damage nearby enemies and heal Warden. He's immune to fear while it's active.

Play around it Healing or sustain — buy healing reduction (Healbane, Toxic Bullets or Decay) so it’s worth less, and focus burst damage rather than chip damage.

Play around it Mobility — it’s also the escape. Don’t chase it into their team; force it out first, then commit. Slowing Hex shuts down many movement abilities.

The kit heals — healing reduction cuts its value.

Shortens the slows, silences and disables in this kit.

  • Weapon Shielding item icon

    Weapon Shielding

    Vitality · 1,600 souls

    Cheap protection against weapon-leaning damage.

  • Bullet Resilience item icon

    Bullet Resilience

    Vitality · 3,200 souls

Resistance that keeps paying off as the game goes on.

General answers are our editorial reading of the kit. Counter items only help if you’re the one being hit — buy for the threat you actually face.

How to beat Warden#

  • Move away from Binding Word's area before it ends.
  • Dispel Magic removes Binding Word and Alchemical Flask.
  • Last Stand's resists only apply while charging — wait, then burst him.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Fighting them head-on in a narrow space.
  • Spending all your burst while their defensive ability is up.
